Then, take a few minutes and read this article. Let
me be sincere: I have no job to offer you personally but want to introduce you
to something which you may not even like after all: Graduate studies. I
understand it may be difficult to conceptualize going for graduate studies. Hmm
not now. Yes, you are done with undergraduate studies and the next thing
in your mind is find a job in a top company, make cool money, and follow a career, and later settle down to an enjoying life with your family. That's the dream of
many students graduating each year. Sadly, the above is only true for a select
few while majority continue to a life of penury. It has nothing to do with your
result as many first class are roaming the streets today searching for
non-existent jobs. That’s the prevailing situation in many countries today and Nigeria
is not an exception.
But you may ask: what has this got to do with
graduate studies? A lot my dear. What many have not realized is graduate
study is a form of job, a rare job where you are paid to develop yourself thus
brightening your chances of even finding a better job upon graduation. How
about collecting a take home of $1500 dollars monthly after tax as a student
for four years following doctoral studies? Not bad for a student roaming the
street and wasting away. American is hungry for such students, good students
but when will people take this opportunity and open future paths for
themselves?
Don’t even think in that direction. You don’t pay
any school fees as you are given a tuition waiver scholarship. You don’t need a
master degree to apply and it does not cost much to apply either. All you need
do is write GRE/TOEFL, order for academic transcript(s), get recommendation
letters from your past lecturers, write a statement of purpose and then submit
everything to a number of universities. Yes, that’s all and all you need is
just a positive response from one school and your journey to US begins where
all is not rosy but all can be made rosy: it all depends on YOU.
The real truth is students from unexpected
countries are utilizing these opportunities. In my first year in America, half
of my class were Chinese, a substantial number from India, some from South
America, a few from Europe while I was the only black African in a class of
fifty five students. I was happy but equally sad. Happy that my dreams of
obtaining a PhD in a top university finally came true but terribly sad that a
good number of my peers are wasting away in Africa and indeed Nigeria when what
needed to be done was taking a step of faith and file applications to a number
of appropriate schools . Will you take that step today? Like I said, you may
not like it after all, but if it resonates with you strongly, then continue to
frequently asked questions and don’t hesitate to leave (email or leave a comment) me a message if
you have any question that’s not covered.

ReplyDeleteThanks.
can one apply without writing the GRE/TOEFL exams, and how can one go about submitting the application..
ReplyDeletePls how can one apply for the TOEFL/GRE exam here in nigeria. Any reliable information will be appreciated. Thanks
ReplyDelete@Stanley
ReplyDeleteYou can apply to a number of schools without writing GRE and TOEFL. It must be noted that those schools tend to be at the bottom of ranking tables. You will also have a hard time convincing VISA OFFICER during your visa interview that you are a genuine student. I will suggest you write GRE while you skip TOEFL (everyone knows we speak English in Nigeria at least) if you don't have the money to write both.
As regards submission of application, you need to website of each school you planned to apply to or attend. You learn more about admission requirements specific for each school. Typically, you fill admission form online.
Feel free to ask any question.

ReplyDeleteA number of organizations registers students for GRE and TOEFL in Nigeria. I do not endorse any of them. What I ll suggest is you look for a friend in US, UK or any European country to help you register while you pay the fellow the equivalent amount. That's safer.
Why this route? GRE?TOEFL do not allow online registration from Nigerian candidates due to issue not unconnected with fraudulent practices. many people registering students in Nigeria today are pure fraud but that does not mean a few are not genuine. You may also use well established name to register for the exam. Which ever way, just make sure you avoid fraud unless ETS will seize your results.
pls i'd like for you to enlighten me on the process of how this could be done as i was fortunate to find someone to help out with the payment in the UK. i've created a mygre account already. but i understand payment can't be made if i offer to take this test in Nigeria. kindly be of assistance with this info of how to go about it.
DeleteThanks for enlightening our folks. You are a great and true Nigerian. This is a very good way to convert your dreams to real life. Many Nigerians do not believe this but this is just the way to go. I just graduated from Florida State University last December. And I have three job offers already and I have been working part-time all through my studies. Dont think I have a green card cos I don't just yet, still on a visa! I came through the simple steps this Godly servant of God wrote here. But, just try your best kinsmen. To God be the Glory! One Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteAgain, thanks ao116528@gmail.com.

ReplyDeletei'm a graduate of a Federal University in Nigeria with a CGPA of 3.4/5.0 .. Is there a possibility of obtaining a full scholarship in the US for MSc?
ReplyDeleteIn case you are wondering how much it will cost you to take an online doctoral degree, well, the expenses don't differ much from onsite PhD programs in colleges and universities. There is, nonetheless, a great deal of difference when it comes to your expenses as a student. By having a doctoral degree online, you will not have to worry about transport costs. In addition, you won't need to invest in your apartment. For more info, visit a good website
ReplyDeleteThis is a great article, I must confess. Why do you have to keep roaming the streets after your first degree all in the name of searching for a job. Self development and improvement is the key. Going for Graduate studies is a really idea and if you do your research properly and extensively, you will out that there are great programs and opportunities out there. Information is key, seek it.
ReplyDeleteInstead of writing GRE or TOEFL can I write IELTS.
ReplyDeleteYou can write IELTS instead of TOEFL. Both are accepted by many universities worldwide. Neither can susbtitute for GRE. While a number of universities can offer admission based on sterling performance in GRE and provided you are from an English speaking country, none will offer such on TOEFl scores alone.
